HS Seniors | Western, NY photographer

It always sneeks up on me … since school is still in session for some; but senior picture season is in full swing.  I absolutely love shooting seniors!!  To some it may seem a formality but I find it to be a very pivotal time for pictures – so much change is on the horizon.  Similar to sports - a good picture is one that captures the moment right before the action, capturing the suspense.  The shot the second before the batter hits the ball that was to become a home run.  Or a shot of a ball player in mid air, seconds before the winning slam dunk.  You can feel the momentum.  It might sound a little crazy, but that’s how I feel about senior pictures.  Senior year can be a very defining time and I love having the opportunity to capture a student as they are now, right before they go on to pursue something great!

Here is an early edit from yesterday’s senior shoot!

Bella – 6 months | lakewood, ny family photographer

I was thrilled when I was asked to shoot Bella’s 6 month pictures.  It ended up being a beautiful day all around!  My goal at every shoot is to capture each person and/or family just as they are; their personality, emotions, and relationships - but this couple made my job easy.  They are so obviously and completely in love with their little girl and each other!   As usual, I find it impossible to choose just a few … enjoy!

My Inspiration

As it is with all mothers, my little boy owns my heart.   And once he was born the 9-5 business world became hard to go back to, and I was fortunate to be able to don the label “stay at home mom”.  I found myself quite restless though, and at this same time (being a new mom) became a little  ”picture crazy!”  I had become un-happy with the traditional ”studio” pictures  – that did little to represent my family, relationships, and personality.  We had recently finished constructing our home, and I needed a new  project  … and so in 2008 (two years ago) I began my business.

I have always loved photography, well maybe the word isn’t simply photography but instead relationships  – capturing them.   I became enamored with “what makes a good picture” … is it the light? … passion? … editing? … the angle?  And so began my studies …

I began to notice beauty in a way I never had before.  In trying to find “ingredients” for a beautiful picture, I began to notice that which is already beautiful.  It was always there - I just had not trained my eyes to see it.  I would drive by and see a field of flowers, a rustic old barn, mother walking  her child through the park … and think, that would make a nice back drop or picture.  I have never been the “stop and smell the roses” type, but now at-least I might notice them as I go rushing by …

And it all does go by so fast … and that’s why I love my job!  It’s such a privilege to have my work on the walls of homes, and to know that those families can look back at it years later and remember how it was “then …”

So a big thanks to all of my clients and followers who have inspired and supported my work, and welcome to my new site!  I will leave you with a few pictures of my little man from last fall, that I never had a chance to post.
